It's called the "Food for Thought" book club, and each book deals with food in some memorable way.

Ypsidixit can think of lots of books that deal with food in very memorable ways. Especially her polar explorer books, where appear such delicacies as penguin tartare, consomme of lichen, and haunch of colleague.

I've found haunch of colleague unpalatable the two times I have tried it. The first was bitter and coarse, the second, tasteless and without substance.

Braising, LF. Gentle braising. That's the key.

"Haunch of Colleague" appears, with maximum grisliness, but no braising, in the tragic account of the ill-starred 1881 voyage of the Greely expedition, chronicled in the harrowing book Ghosts of Cape Sabine.

Will the Toklas book discussion involve brownies?
