Thomas More doesn't have a leg to stand on. They're asking the court to retroactively reverse a decision that was made long before Prop 2 was passed. You may as well file suit asking to reinstitute slavery. Dolts.

They are indeed a part of ave maria somehow and a plague on our city. I also with they'd head down 75 to the Sunshine State.

look at disney world. there is obviously no zoning law whatsoever in florida; I'm sure they can build as big a crucifix as they want. Plus, the scientologists are right next door, so they would look pretty moderate in comparison.

Praise Jesus and avoid the Noid!

Sometimes I think Ave Maria was strategically placed so as to best take a bead on Ann Arbor, arguably MI's most liberal community.

Laura - You are correct. Monaghan described Ann Arbor as a modern-day Gomorrah (or something like that) in an interview I read some years ago. The location is no accident.

I was of the understanding that he was moving all his operations to Florida in a fit of pique after Superior Twp denied his permit to build a skyscraper up there at the compound. But I guess he decided to stick around and make life miserable for the rest of us.

Dan: Regarding Monaghan's dark view of AA as a sink of moral filth: jeez, looks like an average college town to me--why do religious fanatics always have such lewd, filthy, fevered imaginations?

I came to the conclusion long ago that there is simply a certain type of person who cannot sleep at night knowing that others are doing things they don't approve of. This type of person is apparently physically unable to leave well-enough alone, or allow others to live in peace.

Religion simply provides a vehicle (built-in moral righteousness standard on all models) with which to launch attacks.

In the absence of a Gott Mit Uns theosophy, they would find another platform. I think it's less a part of religious faith (which proselytizes against this behavior), than it is a product of a 'will to power' philosophy held by some within said faith. 'Live and let live' is anathema to these people.

I think that is very shrewdly insightful, and is right on. I'd agree with you completely, Dan. (Also, that "vehicle...on all models" bit was clever).
