This from the Wall Street Journal: "As many as two million patients at U.S. hospitals may develop infections each year, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention estimates. It says these may lead to nearly 90,000 deaths annually -- more than the toll from breast cancer or car crashes. Just amazing. I knew there were *some* iatrogenic deaths in hospitals...but 90,000 deaths? There are 40,000 deaths annually from driving. So...going to the hospital is more than twice as dangerous as driving?! Good heavens.
