Actually that looks very similar to the view from my front porch in the winter when the leaves are down from the trees. That is the view I get when I look northwest. Well almost. That photo seems to have been taken from some building that once was to the south of here a couple of hundred yards on the other side of the tracks, perhaps in the parking lot of Marsh Plating? You know, come to think of it...that building in the foreground kind of looks like the older part of Marsh Plating on N. Grove.

Cool photo. You dont mind if I save a copy do you? It might be fun to make a print to hang in my living room.

It isnt actually in the *foreground* but the more I look at the building, the more sure I am that the building that is on the far left is the old part of Marsh Plating.

Lynne, I have to say I was hoping you'd comment since I know you know this area of town. It seems to have been taken from the top of some building or other. When I have a minute I want to wander around down there with a camera and try to pinpoint the viewpoint.

As far as saving a copy, it's fine by me--but of course the photo is due not to me but to the Ypsi Historical Society for posting it.

Ok, I just stepped outside and looked. That building is almost certainly the old portion of Marsh Plating. So, the photo was taken from the east side of N. Grove near Michigan Ave from an upper story of a building that used to be there or perhaps from Prospect which is up a hill from it.

I think I am going to have charge up the camera batteries to see if I cant take a photo from a similar perspective so I can do a sort of before and after kind of thing.

OK, I just looked at my map and see the area you're discussing...wow, thank you, Lynne, for narrowing it down! Now I'm dying to get down there tomorrow with my camera and try to duplicate the view. Of course, we're heading into the heaviest week of work at work starting Monday...so I can only hope I'll get down there. Anyways, thanks for clearing this up Lynne.

It would be very cool if you had time to take a picture, Lynne. I would love to see it. Thanks for offering to do so. In the meantime I'll try to do so myself.

A church once stood where Kluck's is now. May have provided good elevation for vistay-viewing.

Kluck's should get an award for providing employment to former streetwalkers.

Raymond: that is interesting; I never knew a church was there. A church tower would make a good photography spot.

Ypsidixit regrets to report that she has never had the pleasure of sampling the cuisine at Kluck's.

i have been there once. Ypsi has the market cornered as far as slimy coney dogs go. I prefer Bill's Hot Dog stand "Let our all male staff serve you." When I ate ate Klucks. The waitress looked very drunk, or disoriented. She dropped the half gallon plastic container of root beer on the ground and it started spraying root beer all over the place. SHE WAS UTTERING THINGS THAT WOULD MAKE jIMMY hOFFA BLUSH IN HIS GRAVE. She also looked like she was gonna kick my ass. I haven't been back.

YD, your visit sounds slightly less than delightful. I had to laugh at your description, though. Ypsi does indeed have the market cornered on coney dogs--you named my favorite spot for 'em, Bills on Michigan Ave (tiny time-warp spot).

Klucks isnt that bad. I sometimes walk over there for dinner in the summer. I like the burgers at Roys Squeeze better but Klucks beats the pants off McDonalds and they are pretty close for me.

They're not very far for me either; maybe I should give it a try once it's warmer. Though YD's description does give me pause.
