Loved AND hated... I'm dying to hear why! Can't wait for the discussion.

liked somewhat and hated from this corner...see you tomorrow (later in the day than 8:00 a.m., however)

hmm, now I'm intrigued by addiann's comment. But not tomorrow, Addiann, but Friday.

Thanks. Not only do I need a keeper, but also someone to tell me what day it is. Truly. The keeper would be particularly good for brushing off dandruff and pointing out drippled dinner spots. Also for feeding the cats.

Now that you mention it, a keeper would be darn handy. In my case to SHUT OFF the computer at 11, to color-coordinate the Value World leavings that constitute my wardrobe into decent outfits, and to cook something other than endless melted-cheese casseroles.

And, incidentally, I had to check what day it was before I commented since I was pretty sure but not absolutely sure it was Wed. So my grip on the days of the week thing can be tenuous at times.

Since it seems like we've heard from a bunch of the people who were planning to participate, may we start the conversation early??? Maybe take a poll to assure ourselves that everyone's had a chance to finish? I'm dying of curiousity about the hating/liking versus loving of this book.

Hmm. I think it's nice that you ask.

However, I know that not everyone reads the blog every day, so there might not be time for all readers to read and respond to a poll. I guess I would not want any person to feel I'd deceived them if they saw the discussion started at a time they didn't expect...I myself would not like that. Maybe we should probably stick to Friday, just for fairness's sake.

Okay with me -- I don't want to leave people out.

OK, good; thanks Anna.

What in heaven's name is a melted-cheese casserole? And how do you make it? :)

Laura - 2005-03-10 14:51:03
Dear sis, you can make a gluey melted-cheese casserole in any one of a number of ways, but the basic thing is the same. Cook a thing of pasta and drain. Cut up a thing of cheese--good cheese, mind you, none of that Kroger stuff--into shingles. Layer 1/2 inch of the pasta in a greased casserole dish. Put on a thin layer of shingles. Another layer of pasta. Now add a layer of filling--last night it was sauteed onions. Another of pasta. Douse with Poor Man's Hollandaise (made from simmered buttermilk & spices)--oh, wait, put on all the rest of the shingles first. Bake at 375 for 40 min and then forget to take some to lunch the next day like a dolt.

Yum. Maybe we should make the book club meeting a pot-luck.

Laura - 2005-03-10 14:57:42
Sure. Let's say first meeting's theme is "native shellfish." Why don't you bring the lobster for everyone, please, Anna.

I'll bring the zebra mussels tartare.

Heh. Okay, that made me laugh.

Laura - 2005-03-10 18:34:58
they're nice with a little lemon. Nothing like eating a filter (actually, I do like mussels).

or instead, we could do a simultaneous show and tell with a "bring your favorite imaginary animal" theme -- I'll bring along the elusive Connecticut Puma, you can bring the West Virginia Mystery Creature.

Lots of ideas here. :)
