Can't tell from the article whether Ypsi will get $5,000 or $30,000. Or how that money will be used. At any rate, someone in town was on the ball enough to apply for the cash. Good for him or her.

Who defines what "success" means? Ann Arbor and Royal Oak are successful cities that elicit envy and contempt in the same breath. Is that what's in store for Ypsi? It seems to me that what makes Ypsi currently interesting and livable is the fact that it is not an Ann Arbor or Royal Oak.
I hope the wishers are careful in their phrasing...

I'm with you, Dan. That decrepit park that I was wandering around in was interesting and offbeat. Not manicured and unwelcoming. Ypsi is full of hidden pockets like that, which I wouldn't want gentrified into oblivion. But, anyways, yes, what is "success"? Is Ypsi successful now?

Is Ypsi successful now? I think it depends on where you live in Ypsilanti. Aside from the schools and some blight, I believe that my Depot Town neighborhood is very successful, and I like living here as much as anywhere I have ever lived. However, I have heard the criticism that Ypsilanti powers -that-be don't throw too much money at the south side of Ypsilanti or duplicate playground equipment there. If these criticisms are true, Ypsi is not successful.

I suppose at this point we could benefit from a south-sider's viewpoint, since I'm too ignorant of that part of town to respond.
