People who want to preserve some semblance of social security (which would include the Social Security Administration) as limited as it is had better get out their attack dogs and torpedos to fend off attack by Swift Boats.

I had some dealings with AARP some years ago when their mailings flooded my mailbox. They staunchly refused to provide their benefits to unmarried persons of any sex. They remained neutral (or neuter?).

Raymond, please excuse my ignorance when I ask: what sort of benefits do they offer? I hadn't known they were discriminatory.

AARP offers a wide range of discount programs from drugs and insurance to travel savings. I wouldn't say they are discriminatory. They just haven't offered inclusion of benefits to unmarried partners of members. That's one of the reasons that the current attack on AARP is so false. But we know from experience that innuendo and lies can provide a more powerful weapon than truth and justice.

From an article about same:

[Tom Delay] "It is incredibly irresponsible for the AARP to be against a solution [to alleged Social Security problems] that hasn't even been written yet," DeLay said after a closed-door meeting with Republican members of the House of Representatives.

It's not written yet, but he knows it's gonna be a workable solution? What an unconvincing comment.

The Bush administration got a "blank check for endless war." Why should it demand less for the "ownership society?"

Well, at least, it is said [poll results], Americans are largely unimpressed with the SS spin being "sold" by our now-stumping leader. The kicker to me is that he apparently thought people were dumb enough to buy it once he and co. whipped up a phony "crisis."
