I hope you meant Franklin. I've gotta tell you, I've been quietly reading this blog for a while and I love it.

Your kind comment just totally made my day. Bless your heart.

Hm, did I tag the wrong Roosevelt? Silly me.

The cold chicken salad was originally going to be chicken a la king, but it was felt that that was too luxe when so many were doing without during WW II. I think this is a very decent thing to do--not made a huge exorbitant fuss over the inauguration.

Government leaders who set a good example and are willing to sacrifice for the good of the country...what a concept! I could easily imagine Ralph Nader (or any other Green Party president) having a simple and inexpensive inauguration even in peace time. Instead, we get what amounts to a royal coronation for Little King Georgie and his Gang O'Thugs. Today is Martin Luther King Day, and I imagine that the spirit of the Reverend is not resting easy these days as he sees how tragically far we have strayed from the vision that he worked so hard and ended up giving his life for.

Lots of chicken hawks in this inauguration. It's sure okay for others to fight in Iraq but not them in the White House to fight when their numbers came up way-back-when. As for Mister Powell, he should be ashamed of himself for propping those Bushbums up. At least Clinton dodged the draft for an avowed point of view, and he admits to it. I dodged the draft the hard way. I enlisted.

Vince: that is an eloquent and sad point you make. But regardless of who is in the White House, Dr. King's legacy is strong and enduring. He had a dream and gave it to a nation, so that it could better itself. And it has, and slowly continues to, imperfectly.

Raymond: you are spot on as always.

And of course Mr. Dannemiller is right--I mixed up the names. Franklin, not Teddy, of course. Fixed it on the front page--thanks, Mr. D.
