The LSJ site reports there were multiple injuries. I-96 has been closed for hours at an 8 or 10-mile stretch just east of Lansing.

Radio reports two deaths. Awful. I tried to call my Lansing sister--answering machine.

Lansing sis is fine, having not strayed more than a mile from home today. The pileup was right at the Okemos exit (closed), right by Dave's office. My hospital (Sparrow) went to a Code Green (disaster) with all available personnel to report for triage. (In 10 yrs I have never worked a Code Green). Thanks to ans. machine, I missed a call from the hospital and was out puddle jumping with the kids. (But I would have gone in , anyways.) Interesting color-coded system of triage; red, critical, yellow, needs attention asap, green, to wait, etc. You can guess what black is for....

Yep, I was thinking of Dave's commute home when I called--I was relieved to hear him on the line and to learn you both were OK. Two people died, one only 14 years old. Dave said on the phone his visibility was 10 feet (gulp). Scary.

But the fog seems to have crept into my brain, since I can't guess what black is for...mushroom cloud visible outside window? Rain of red frogs? Code-administering guy in basement is bored and wants someone to come down for a game of checkers? Are there other color-codes? Code Plaid: patient with no fashion sense?

Well, I don't mean to be flippant about what are very serious hospital situations (code chrome: prematurely bald patient?) [to self: stop it!] At any rate, the pileup made news in England.

OK, sorry, I mixed up the hospital codes with the triage codes, sorry. Yes, I can guess what black is for. Excuse my cluelessness, please.

Informative Lansing-area story on the crash. It's now up to 200 cars. Good heavens, I hope all those people got home safely.

News reports said that some idiots were exceeding the 70mph speed limit even in the thick fog.
Idiots.

Why would anyone do that? That's just flat dumb. 70 mph is too fast even in the best of conditions, if you ask me.

Mmm. You mentioned Jerusalem Garden. One of my all time faves. I have not yet had a falafel sandwich that matches theirs...
