Oops. Very sorry about that. I fixed it, please excuse me. It's a long and very interesting diary--note the bit about her crossing the river and putting her hand on the horse's "hip" [quaint] and then falling in the icy water--ugh.

2005 Wednesday January 5- A snow storm of no small conveyance commenced on this day. I had finished my required labors and decidedly made my journey from Ann Arbour to Ypsilanti. The sighting was poor but I trod on. One poor gentleman had tipped his horseless carriage precariously in a ditch, which I viewed upon turning south onto Leforge. The rear wheels of the machine where nowhere near the ground where they should be. And the device loomed precipitously. I stopped and called to him to which he replied that he was well and that help was coming and he would not need my assistance. But offered thanks for my concerns. Finally, I made rest at the dam at Leforge and proceeded to consume my malten beverage that I had procured before my journey began in earnest. Across the river were several groups of men assembling rows of rooming houses in the snow. Their toil in the storm was admirable, but soon a call came for all the men to stop to which there were many hoots and shouts from the men. A large carriage came by slowly to which all the men climbed aboard. I set in to make the final leg of my journey to my dwelling which I traversed with effort but with no other events that were notable.

"2005 Thursday, January 6--Come noontide, I sadly found my repast wanting. To accompany my soup-flask, I resolved to acquire two small rolls with cheese of cream. In accordance with this resolve, I journeyed by velocipede to the kerosene shop. Here, in addition to kerosene, one may purchase all and sundry. Selecting two small rolls, I paid for my purchase and returned to my work-place. Here, to my delight, I found a friend had kindly deposited a note of uncommon cleverness and whimsy on my light-journal, at which I laughed heartily, ill befitting a lady.

So many images from so few words...

Funny you should mention that--the cherries-ripe-in-the-yard image stuck with me, too.

It's kind of like a haiku...

You are right--that's a shrewd and interesting observation. It is indeed haikuish.
