Heh, heh heh. He does look scary. The squirrels in Michigan are the most agressive I've come across. During one of my first Michigan jogs, years ago, I came across a squirrel who scurried into a tree and started to make sounds that were incredibly close to barking. I couldn't get over it, and was surprised when native MI folks didn't think it was a big deal.

I know the sound you mean. An angry, strained, rapid, sometimes slightly falling series of barklets. When my dog chases a squirrel, the squirrel makes this sound--once it's out of range. It is familiar.
