The question remains, which came first, academics or finance? The answer as always is $$$. One of the appointees is a Son of Sam (well, supporter of Sam, at least). The other is a champion of the New World Global Job Export Order. Has Ms. Granholm yet announced her acting team-up with Arnold? And we don't even want to get into the outgoing-female-minority versus incoming-male-caucasian issue... The Bi-partisan celebrants (Hey! they support the football team.) may now continue their victory dances in the streets.

This is probably another example of Typical Government/Corporate Foolishness, hence the complete confusion that we likely all feel. More "Bad Craziness" as Hunter Thompson might say!

Just another thought related to this...when I was an undergrad at CMU I was aquainted with some of the more politically left of center profs. I recall frequent complaints from them about how the CMU trustees (equivalent of EMU's regents) were just a bunch of greedy big business hacks with political connections who really didn't give a toss about education. In fact I think I have a tape somewhere made by one of said profs (who is no longer at CMU) who is also a guitarist/folksinger. One of the songs includes a lengthy ad libbed rant at the CMU administration circa mid-1980s.

Hmm. Raymond, I'm afraid I'm not sure who the Sam you refer to is, sorry, who is that, please?

I suppose those grassroots candidates never had much of a chance to begin with (sigh).
