That actually happened in the middle of September.

Oh. Didn't know that (story is dated 11/11/04). Wonder why they're reprinting it as if it's a current news story.

It looks like it's from the Op-Ed section of Pravda, so I guess they can editorialize whenever they choose to. http://www.news24.com/News24/World/Iraq/0,,2-10-1460_1419194,00.html

I would respectfully disagree: upon closer inspection I see that another top story on the tiger page is "Christ Born in Ukraine," which obviously is a factual piece rather than an op-ed.

I thought Christ, Christ, and Christ came from Ypsilanti State Hospital. Whether one murders a Christ or a caged tiger, why should it matter if the deed is done in September or today?

YAY! Raymond is back finally!

I hope New York went well!

Yes, there were 3 inmates at Ypsi Psych who believed they were Christ. There was a book written @ them called "the 3 Christs of Ypsilanti," if I remember right.

New York went well. Our Polaroid pictures of the audience show many severe glares, one guy swilling beer, and one man giving us the finger. Critics. Hah!

Momentarily we head for a cocktail reception at the DIA for the Friends of Modern Art. Director Beal will reach deeper into our pockets. Hahaha! they're empty.

I'm glad it went well. The DIA reception sounds elegant.

Elegant indeed. Tables covered with black cloths, set with tea-lights, in the Kresge Court with muted lighting. A well-stocked wine bar, a solicitous staff, patrons doddering in black apparel. Although we've been DIA members for a decade or more, Friends of Modern Art but a year+. New meat. Fey gentlemen flocked to Brian, ladies to me. Chef Emeril Lagasse asked Brian, "But why are YOU here?" The ensuing discussion of Brian's used condom art and painted wedding dresses generated enthusiastic responses, while I discussed the MC5 and the Sonics Rendevous Band with matrons. The idea of our puppet/performance work in NYC they seemed to find silly. Luckily, it is, haha.

Meanwhile, we sneaked out early and jived with the security guard and the coat checker. The guard does 50 hours per week. The coat man is redundant. He asked us if we had a job for him. Current renovations may be done by 2007.

I carried a camera in my pocket, but I shot no lions, no donkeys, no patrons. I tried for some bullet holes in Ms Ono's freight train. We'll see some day what comes of that.

What a great description; I could just picture it. The Kresge Court is the one with the Rivera murals, isn't it? I've seen elegant do's held there, in the past. Sounds like a wonderful time.

Kresge Court is downstairs to the right if you enter from Woodward. Usually (recently, compared to forever) it's a cafeteria. Was an outside area for decades, eventually walled, then roofed in, after Meredith Bixby watched Rivera upstairs painting murals. I used to get free lunch when I did shows in the theater during Audley Grossman's tenure as curator of theater arts, way-back-when.

Oh, of course, how silly of me--yes, it's that pleasant cafeteria; I see what you mean. It's a nice space, with hugely high skylighted ceilings if I remember correctly (clearly, it's time for a revisit to the DIA--last time I was there was for the beautifully-done Van Gogh exhibit).
