Wonderful! I was thinking, the first time you mentioned their removal, that maybe it was a parks cutback. Glad it's not.

I like the comic image of the Ypsilanti yellow ropes on the (painted) green plastic barrels in this particular thread. Not having a clue about Leforge Dam. Or the art show.

Garbage barrels don't have yellow ropes in Lansing, although there are plenty of comic references. Perhaps starting with some of the legislators.

Yesterday I finished cartoon/caricatures of the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution of the United States of America, and the Bill of Rights. I'll use them to make a fool of myself in New York City. I don't know much about art, but I signed them anyway.

Addiann: funny visual observation. And regarding Leforge...barrel...exhibit of comic art all mushing together: that's one of the things I love about blogging, the way that totally weird justapositions show up in threads in a kind of fresh, herky-jerky poetics.

Raymond: Now I'm even more intrigued about the possible pre-NY Hallowe'en show.

We'll decide this weekend. We have other performances at Ypsi and A2 District libraries on Saturday and Sunday respectively. If we get something set, we'll announce it and solicit victims by Tuesday or Wednesday. Eek!

...luckily the Sidetrack awaits any aftermath...

Oh, good! I'm glad to learn about it and will stay tuned.

I really have to learn to say all the words...I meant that I'm the one who has no clue about Leforge Dam or the art show. La la, as they say, it was still an amusing little riff thanks to you two.

Oh, Addiann, I understood what you meant, no worries. Amusing little riffs "R" us. :)

Thanks for the mention, Laura.

Art's a pretty subjective thing, so you'll have to decide for yourself if comics fit that definition. Still, you'd be hard pressed to see better Sequential Art than Winsor McCay's, in my humble opinion.

For one of the best books on comics-as-viable-medium, I must strongly recommend Scott McCloud's Understanding Comics which can usually be purchased used at Ned's, because it's often used as curriculum at EMU.

As for the panel, I actually feel like that Sesame Street song... "One of these things is not like the others..." as they've put me in with legends like Marie Severin and Len Wein. Marie's one of the unsung female heroes in the world of comics, doing pencils, colors, inks -- you name it! -- in a time when women just weren't a part of that field. Her presence alone makes the symposium worth attending!

Whoops.
Runaway underline, and no way to edit once you've submitted. Sorry.

Please don't be sorry--I didn't know this blog had that feature! Useful info! Useful info @ the symposium too. Thanks Jane.

Jane rocked at the symposium... I would also like to chime in agreement with Jane. Outside mentioning stuff like McCloud, I think we can see comic influences in a lot of art from modernism to post modernism. Keith Herring, Roy Lichtenstein, and Andy Warhol come to mind. Oh Jane...all your free sample books disappreaed qucikly! Still...I gave our last Copy to a 5th grade girl who went on about how she liked your pieces in the show. I told her to write you as well. Another young mind corrupted...and a female one. Let me know if you hear from this girl.
