I love Sufjan Stevens, but is that a legal mp3? In any case, he actually lives in New York now, so he isn't exactly a Michigan songwriter anymore. Best Michigan-themed album this-side of TOBASOL, though.

Oh, and that album also contains the only song I know-of about my hometown of Holland, MI (Mustard Plug's "Murder in Tulip City" notwithstanding). "Sleeping on Lake Michigan / Factories and marching bands" indeed.

Hi, Brandon, nice to see you again. Michigan-born songwriter, I should have said; thanks for the update. I'm intrigued by the album and after hearing you praise it I'm putting it on my list. I like the album cover artwork. I'd like to hear the Holland song.

Oh, and I have no idea if it's a legal mp3--I suspect not.

Apparently "Michgan songwriter" is Ann Arbour speak for any sonwirter not from Ann Arbor. We made the mistake of picking up Sunday's paper where they review the Brandon Wiard (yes, of that Wiard's) CD. They fail to mention he's not exactly from AA at all (actually an Ypsi fixture / great songwriter).

Sorry for the "Michigan songwriter" bit--that is pretty vague--I was too lazy to track down his hometown.

I went to the Wiard's countryfest last year--it was a wee bit hokey yet fun, and there was some good country music there (though mostly covers), by a Rick Smith.
