Wow, seeing your initials just made me realize that you could have been in the lyrics of the REM song "It's The End of The World As We Know It." There is a verse where Michael Stipe dreams he is at a party where all the other guests have the initials "L.B." Leonard Bernstein, Leonid Brezshnev (sp?), Lenny Bruce and Lester Bangs are the names mentioned IIRC. There was also a Michigan basketball player named LeeAnn Bies a few years ago. If only Michael Stipe and REM had been from the Ann Arbor/Ypsilanti area, who knows???

I loved "Let It Blurt," about the, um, colorful life of Lester Bangs.

Let It Blurt--definitely worth a read.

You know, in all the years I have been listening to that particular REM song, I never noticed that all of those folks had the same initials. I guess I am not a very observant person. It is a good thing I am not a detective.

Hi, I'm a faithful reader of Mike W. Been hearing about blog webs for quite a while. His writeup about your site was so interesting, I simply had to see for myself. How very cool!

Yay!--hi, dear sis, thanks for readin' the story!

What lurks beyond the frame, my dear, is sparkling cleanliness and military-style order and organization, yessiree.

(Seriously, I beg to correct you--that's just ONE of the doors I slam shut when anyone comes over!)

hey, congratulations on the long-deserved recognition, and good luck with those Diaryland servers. The kind of obscure things you manage to find (I loved the one about "Ann Arbor's first blogger" from the 1800's you had a while back) are just what the medium was made for.

What a nice comment from my alltime favorite Ann Arbor blogger.

Thank you for stopping by to read and for telling me what you liked. I appreciate it very much.

Didn't make the meetup (I'm an early riser), sorry, but hope it was fun. Again, AAIO, thank you for your nice words.

Well, you missed an exciting evening indeed.

I just now noticed the "www" error in the Freep. Wow, is that frustrating - get big-time recognition and the address isn't even right. My mom always used to put "www" before my old Diaryland address and then tell me the site was down.

It sounds as though everyone had a good time; I'm glad.

Yes indeed, somehow that www crept in there. Wendland said he'd print a correction in his next tech column.

Last, I loved that recent Wodehouse-Woof entry of yours, by the way--quite funny. At any rate, thank you for coming by.

congrats on the free press in the Free Press. Thee www.-issue reminds me of an incident several months back when my 4 year old nephew managed to avoid his babysitter's vigilance and got onto the computer, being caught just as he had managed to type in "WWW BOBTHEBUILDER", which i think sums it all up as someone who technically hasn't even learned how to read thinks that everything on the 'computer thing' just needs those three letters in front to function.

Nice to see you again Brett--thank you for your nice comment.
You might like to check out the post about the song "Burning Down Ypsilanti"--the paper mill is in it.

brett - 2004-09-18 14:06:44
yes, i did see that, and as I believe peninsular would have been the only paper mill still existing at that point it certainly is interesting to see it having been so beloved by the author.

Laura - 2004-09-18 14:08:09
OK, that answers that question, thanks Brett; I wasn't sure--cool, I love having the mill living on in a song!
