I love this movie as well. The best Sci-fi movie made as far as I'm concerned. Everything from the epic, cinematic scope of the future LA cityscape to the smaller details, like the low-flying blimps advertising a "new life" in the off-world colonies, made this world come alive. Anyway, this brought back memories, and I'd like to see this on the big screen again sometime soon. Good stuff.

Someone (Greg Araki? Gus van Sant?) should present Burroughs' "Blade Runner: A Movie" and then take a new vote. Or take a vote not from scientists but from the top 60 desperados.

DaveD: I agree: it's visually stunning, satisfyingly dark and dystopic, and intricately and thoughtfully detailed as you say. Never read the book by Philip K. Dick (recently read his "Man in the High Castle") but would love to see this movie again, although I've seen it several times already. One of the very few items that makes me wish I had a TV/DVD.

and a beautiful soundtrack, too.

Dick's books always seem quite different than the movies based on them. I think his book had a better title but otherwise, I admit I liked the movie better. It really is one of the better movies ever made.

Since reading that essay I'm dying to see it again...I'll have to try and cajole some TV-owning friend into a Blade Runner watching party.

well, I hate to impose. One of these days I'm going to break down and get a dvd player just for movies' sake.
