I've heard stories that Orrin Hatch used to make fun of Miller's first name to the point that Zell wanted to fight him. Saxby Chambliss usually had to step in a break it up.

I was trying to think of what it possibly could be short for.

I'm not sure someone named "Orrin" "Hatch" should make fun of the name "Zell". (and "Saxby"?)

In the most memorable torture scene, Szell uses his dental instruments for sadistic oral surgery to torture and extract information from Babe. Szell is the essence of evil and disturbingly effective during the torture, repeatedly asking Babe the question: Is it safe?

Supposedly they shortened the dental torture scene in MM after previewing audiences actually got ill watching. Ugh.
Yes, now that the normally-named Tom mentions it, "Saxby" and "Orrin" are quite bizarre.
But even those can't hold a candle to the Ann Arbor children's names I see on a local parenting list that I lurk on for work reasons.

The mythical fights between Orrin, Zell, and Saxby are just that. On a different note, I long to live in a country where a person is not made fun of because of his name. It was a dream my late father Addie had but didn't live to see happen. I carry his dream for him.

As one who was mercilessly called Lima Bean throughout high school yet who has miraculously escaped resulting lifelong trauma, I hasten to assure Eric * that we're just remarking on the fact that they have odd names. We're not to the point of burning anyone in effigy or something. OK?

If you don't mind giving some examples, what are some of the Ann Arbor children's names? Are they stereotypical hippieish names like Rainbow or Moonbeam?

As a once-removed lurker of AAParents for not 'work reasons' (snort) but pure, unadulterated entertainment, I can vouch for irritatingly trendy names (Arlo, Storm) and even more irritating spellings of otherwise calm names. (Ashlee,Madysen).

Heh heh. Hi dear sis! Yes, I hesitated to respond to Vince's post, considering the self-righteous wrath that was visited upon me after the now-legendary "stroller post." But yes, OK, I do glean the occasional event from them for "work reasons" but I listen in mostly for pure, unadulterated entertainment too. I admit it. :) (Don't forget "Ashia." And "Kameron." And "Darius." And "Miles." And "Eden.")

My next guess after "stereotypical hippieish names" was going to be "white parents trying to be "multicultural" by giving their kids names more commonly used by people of color."
