My best advice is to minimize. Put as much stuff in the basement or attic as you can even if it is only going to be temporary. Rooms look neater when they have less stuff. Of course, I dont practice what I preach and have way too much stuff lurking in my regular living spaces.

Excellent tip. I'll do a "sweep" and herd stuff into the crawl space. Things just build up...you're right, rooms look neater when they simply have less stuff. Thanks Lynne.

Haha. The storm woke me up too. Washing the windows will let more light come in plus it will make the whole place look cleaner.

That's one thing I hadn't thought of, Scott--thanks! It's been a while since I washed the windows, and they need it. One of those things you stop noticing when it's just you at home. I also woke up during the storm--nice, I like storms.

Washed the windows? Windows are washable?

When we clean house we put the blade on the tractor and bring in the wheelbarrows and shovels. Rakes come in handy, too. Vacuum cleaners are too scary for the cats. One time when we thought about cleaning we moved instead.

Now, see, raymond understands. That's about my level, too. And as you can see by my lounging around here, I'm doing a whole lot about it. Well, I got my hair cut this morning, anyways. My mom said, "Try to look a little nicer than you usually do." Great. Thanks Mom. She just meant, "look your best," not "you usually look like a slob," lthough the latter is slightly closer to the truth, outside of work.

it sounds as though you have a very punishing schedule, with bartending piled on top of work at BIT. Hard work.

Aw, Laura, just be your lovely, quirky, unique self and let your stuff be, too. The Freep picked you and wants readers to see the real Laura. Why hide her--and her stuff? She's wonderful as she is. On the less-psychological side, you could invite a pal--you know, one of those artsy-arrangey kind of folk--to come over and "stage" the real Laura to show her off best. Um, I'm not too bad at it. (Is this a big enough hint? Or do I need to get pushy?) I also have a friend who's a genius at arranging stuff. Being fully Buddhist, she doesn't judge either. We could help. Just ask. You know where to find me in Cubicle Gopherville.

Yay! It's [my wonderful co-worker] Sally! Thanks for visiting, Sally! I must say, your kind and sweet comments reflect more on you than on me.
I'm quirky? :) I thought I was fairly vanilla, but I'll take quirky. :)
Well, I've managed to mount an Ypsi-centric tableau around my desk area, which is what they'll be photographing. I've got the Ypsi Civil War Muster photo hung on the wall. I've got the nonchalantly tossed Ypsi Courier. I've got 2 James Mann books teetering on top of the computer. I've got the 1825 Orange Risdon SE MI map and a lovely 1902 Ypsi map on display. Aside from that, I'm still working on it, and will be till rather late tonight I'm afraid. At any rate, I'll compensate for any shortcomings with bubbly quirk--thanks Sally, hope to see you here again!

p.s. Sally, it is very nice of you to offer to help. Thank you for your kindness. I'd take you up on it if time allowed...but they'll be descending on me tomorrow, yikes. My priority at this point is cat urine stain removal/strategic area rug positioning. I have a nearly white carpet, so every time you sneeze it creates a four-foot stain, practically. So off I go, spray bottle in hand! Thanks again Sally!

Fantastic! Be sure to let us know what day they print the piece (or plan to if they tell you in advance) so I can look for a copy here in the sticks.

Thank you addiann for your nice comment! I am flattered that you would read it.
Oh, I'll be sure to let everyone know, probably quite loudly, don't worry! :)
