I am sorry that you had to go through such an unpleasant experience. Still, I have to confess that there is a certain part of me that is glad that my yard isnt the only one in town that is dangerous to critters.

Thanks Lynne. Well, it wasn't that bad--I just didn't want my dog to get sick gnawing on such a thing, although I've come to the conclusion that her stomach is cast iron. I was sorry the squirrel died, but I didn't punish Clover--that's just her nature. It was just a tad close to home given my morbid reading material. At any rate. I moved on to sunnier topics online.

Wow, you are brave...

I have a bird in my basement. It has been there for months. "How did a bird get into [my] basement?", you ask. Good question. I have no idea. I don't have a cat. My dog never goes down there and probably couldn't catch a bird even if she tried. There aren't any windows that open. It's a huge mystery. Sad... but I just cannot DEAL with the bird corpse, even though there probably isn't much left of it by now. So, I just don't go in there anymore.

You have my deepest admiration.

you are right, Anna, it's probably just a dried up little nothing now...could you inveigle a friend/relative/furnace guy to scoop it up, just so you can use the space?

It's one of four creepy, dusty, moldy rooms in my basement, and I barely use it, so it hasn't been much of a loss. Nevertheless, I should just do it... I have dealt with worse (hedgehog *shiver*). I will do it this coming weekend, if for no other reason than to prove to myself that I can.
