I was sorry the squirrel died, but I didn't punish Clover--that's just her nature. It was just a tad close to home given my morbid reading material. At any rate. "How did a bird get into [my] basement?", you ask. Good question. I have no idea. I don't have a cat. My dog never goes down there and probably couldn't catch a bird even if she tried. There aren't any windows that open. It's a huge mystery. Sad... but I just cannot DEAL with the bird corpse, even though there probably isn't much left of it by now. So, I just don't go in there anymore.
