I used to both live and work on that side of town. I really liked it. When I was ready to buy a house, I really wanted one over there but ended up finding a really good deal on the east side of Depot town. Still, every once in a while, I will walk the dogs over there because the streets are familiar and I love looking at all the cozy houses. Last January I did some door to door work for Howard Dean in that neighborhood and found pretty much everyone to be very pleasant.

I always thought it looked very tidy and well-kept, with people taking pride in their houses. Very pleasant-looking...but a bit out of my price range when I was house-shopping in 2000; I also live east of Depot Town.

What a coincidence. I was house shopping in 2000 too and also found most of the Normal Park houses just out of my range. There was one I could afford but then I found this one I live in now.

People who would prefer to live in Ann Arbor often settle there. The prices are so much better. And you don't have to go near the rest of Ypsi. But many who appreciate Ypsi also choose Normal Park. An active neighborhood association operates there. The June yard sales make for good junking. Many EMU staff and faculty live there, but not the interim EMU president with his $18,333.33 per month salary, free new car, and free fenced palace. Ypsi, always on the up- or the down-swing, is anyway interesting and colorful.

you're welcome. If you call the Convention and Visitor's Bureau at 483-4444, they will be happy to put together a packet of community guides & a map & they'll send it for free to an Ypsi address. There's a Visitor's Guide and a community resource printed by the Courier with lots of community phone #s.

My friends live just down the street from you Scott; they're the hippies. There are good parts and bad parts in Ypsi but it's one of those strange towns where each of the repesctive sides mingle into each other's territory. Don't be surprised to see a man with no face strolling down the sidewalk, or Ezel, or the paper guy (he gashes the paper and throws it on the ground), etc... That's Ypsi. Either you'll love it and defend it to your death or you'll hate it and flee. lol

Ezel is the guy that is always cleaning up around town, yelling out, "Alright, Alright, God Bless...". The paper guy is some presumebly homeless guy that used to be a lawyer or something. I've only actually seen him once but I know he hangs around that area because my friend, the hippie, sees him all the time. He's real crazy and angry and carries a briefcase. He scribbles something on a piece of paper and then tosses it on the ground. Sometimes he even goes in the police station near the courthouse and hands them his scribbles. Funny. There are a ton of characters downtown. I actually miss them now that I live out in the township.
