guess my "International Terrorist" t-shirt wouldn't pass muster, nor my big ol' aircraft-quality aluminum peace symbol, the "imagine peace" button from Yoko Ono (we saw two besides ours in England), etcetera.

"This February, the five were brought to trial in Crawford. Their lawyer asked Tidmore if someone who simply wore a political button reading "Peace" could be found in violation of Crawford's ordinance against protesting without a permit. Yes, said the chief. "It could be a sign of demonstration."
So...seems your peace symbols wouldn't pass muster in lovely Crawford, apparently.

http://revbilly.com/index.php#1stamend This guy is an actor and activist who has a charismatic preacher character. Every Thursday at the WTC station/Ground Zero, you can carry your cell phone so you don't look like a protester and "memorize the 1st Amendment, or wear it on your sleeve, or have a friend prompt you over the phone. Enter the station repeating phrases of the Amendment. As you do this, you will be surrounded by others on cell phones doing the same thing. Pretend you don't know them. Then, after ten minutes of repetition, say the whole thing forcefully. We all get better at the same rate and gather, reciting the great words in unison. We become a crowd with one common statement. Finally: We repeat the phrase big and clean." Next stop: the RNC!

Rev Billy work excellent and hilarious. The Theaters Against War (THAW) alliance plans activities throughout the RepNatCon and like Billy encourages those of us who can't be there to be active in public where we can be.

Can we afford lawyers? Can we afford time off work to be in jail? How is it that patriotism, support of the Consitution, can subject us to punishment?

I haven't read Lewis' "It Can't Happen Here" since high school. Time to re-read.

Andy--that's good, thanks for adding that. I also find Rev. Billy very funny and even inspired. He was on campus at U-M last year.
Raymond: funny, I happen to have that Sinclair Lewis book (I love all his books, especially Elmer Gantry and Babbitt)...you are right, it's worth a re-read this weekend.
