Log fire in the fireplace chases the chill from the lodge. Ain't it a bit early? Turns out this year the dog days of August mean the 105# dog clambers at night onto the bunk whereas usually in warm weather he stretches out on the pavement in the cool hall to snooze till dawn.

I have noticed leaves changing color on the vines on my fence. And my walnut trees are starting to lose some leaves already (just a few though). I have been sleeping with all the windows shut and like raymond, I have noticed a dog in my bed.

a log fire...I love that. My folks have fireplace and that's one thing I'd love to eventually put in.
In my case the dog has an insulated Dogloo in the garage, with old couch cushions to lie on. She likes to get muddy, and that doesn't go well with carpet (once the snow's on the ground I let her in for the winter)

These are the first signs I have noticed: Cold feet, visible breath, ripe apples, my dog isn't shedding so much, and the other day I had deja vu of skateboarding around a deserted downtown Ann Arbor on a cold, grey Thanksgiving Day when I was thirteen years old. The weather often triggers memories, and lately I have been having some Fall flashbacks. I wonder if Christmas decorations are on display at the drug store. I haven't noticed yet, but are the tree frogs croaking?

Visible breath? In August? Land sakes. Yes, my dog has given up shedding too--she was a hair factory in June. Please don't tell me Xmas decorations, much less Halloween stuff, is already for sale--I always try to resolutely ignore such egregious pre-marketing.
No word on the tree frogs. I didn't even know MI had tree frogs--thinking no doubt mistakenly that they were a tropical species.
