So does a bike like this offer a lot less "work" than a typical mountain bike or hybrid bike to get around town? I am assuming the seating position is what makes it? I visited the website and saw that you have to spend around a grand to get into one of these. Has been worth it so far? Thanks for the info. I am already interested.

Thanks Scott!
Phil, yes, it requires much less work. When you pedal you are pushing against the seat, which gives you more power. I don't know if BIT wants me to say how much I paid for this, but it was NOWHERE in the neighborhood of a grand. Nope. Much, much less (they are definitely the store to go through--nowhere else on the web or at a shop did I see the price I paid!--I saw *used* Sports online that were more expensive than my new one!)
I just got back from *another three and 1/2 hours* of biking (in addition to 3 hours this morning), and I'm fresh as a daisy. No stiff neck (like before) no cricked back, no sore tuchus. I'm not tired, and I got about two dozen (!) compliments. One lady called from her car, "That is such a cool bike! Did you make it?" I called back that I got it from BIT on Mich. Ave.
Just for fun, I biked from home to Gallup Park, through the park to the medical center to the Jimmy John's there, went back through Gallup, ate, went all the way through Parker Mill and back, went up to the CVS on Washtenaw for an errand and then home--about 18 miles and no problem. The bike is smooth in handling due to long wheel base and nimble in steering. It needs granny gears on steep hills (and I need to get more fit) but it cooks on straightaways and descents--much faster than my mountain bike. It's like having a 25-mph La-Z-Boy. Yep, this is the bike for me. I car-waxed it and oiled everything and it looks great. The shiny silver retro helmet I got to match looks cool. I couldn't be happier with this bike. Fun, stylish, ergonomic, and comfy as all get out. Thanks to BIT for stocking this wonderful bike!

Oh, and one gentleman I passed who was riding a wedgie actually said, "That looks a whole lot more comfortable than this one." Sure is.

Note to Phil: If you happen to stop by BIT one of these days to give the Easy Racer Sport a whirl, please note that there are 2 Easy Racer models there--the EZ1 I think it's called, an early model, and then there's the curvy later-model Sport--the Sport is the one to try, in my opinion.

The reason I say "I don't know if BIT wants me to say how much I paid" is because I don't see how they can stay in business if they sell Easy Sports for that price. I don't want people coming in there and saying, "But you sold one to HER for bla!" if they cannot continue to offer it at that price. But I don't want BIT to say here what I paid for it, either. Let's just say it was a pittance.

Fourth comment in a row, sorry--one more thing about BIT. I was chatting to the helper there about a baby-jog stroller in the shop. It had got a flat tire, and the owner was laughed out of a certain AA bike shop when he asked them to fix it. "We don't do that kind of work," he was snootily told. BIT repaired it. "We do anything," said the helper. So if you have a mishap with anything even distantly related to a bike (wagon....wheelbarrow tire....stroller), the folks at BIT will probably be happy to help you out. (I also noted while I was there that a very nice bike seat was sold for a paltry $15.)

Oh, and, Phil, if you're thinking of a bike for commuting this one would be great (in addition to reasons above) because you don't turn into a sweaty mess. I biked to work on my mtn bike Monday, and when I got to work there were (forgive the level of detail) big sweatspots on my shirt--I had to change (luckily I had a spare shirt at work). When I got home today, I was not sweaty at all. I'm going to be commuting to and from work from now on on this bike, and this is one more reason why it'd be a great choice for a commuter--you're presentable when you get to work.

Ok, know that Laura has clued you all in, let me be the first to let anyone know that if you are interested in anything regarding bikes, BIT will be happy to help you out. Second, please feel free, Laura, to enlighten us on all your endeavors regarding the new ride. Paul(owner of BIT) and I are both quite happy that you have take the time to help us out here and the kind words are appreciated. I work there M-F (10-6) and would be happy to answer any questions or fix any repairs you may have. Ok enough with the shameless plug. Happy Riding and be safe. Scott

Congrats on the new bike. And BIT is a GREAT shop. When my Mongoose mountain bike was stolen last summer, Paul lent me a nice Peugeot touring bike and told me to "bring it back whenever" I had the money for another bike. Amazingly, I got my old bike back, but it was cool of him to help me out with the loaner. I tell anyone who's even remotely interested in a bike to go directly there.

Wow, how nice of them to give you a loaner! I got the same message, as you know--"just take the recumbent for a weekend." Just that offer by itself clued me in that I was at the right shop.
DaveD, d'you mind if I ask how on earth did you get your bike back? I had had the impression that once a bike is stolen it's gone for good since I imagine the police don't have the time, really, to pursue a crime like that. Just wondering (and hope you got it back undamaged).

Easy Racer update: I took the bike to AA and back today--another effortless commute. Along the way I passed two chatting bikers, both Velo Club types with logo-covered bike clothing and expensive-looking racing wedgies--at any rate, one called out, "Hey! Beautiful bike!" which I thought was very nice, especially from a pro biker.
