raymond - 2004-07-19 16:56:15 Well, now, of course, I'm curious about the "Wisconsin Death Trip." :)* * * * * * * * * * * * addiann - 2004-07-20 10:25:57 East Lansing has become the home of drunk children every weekend, a place to avoid. A shame, it used to be a very nice little college town.* * * * * * * * * * * * Anna - 2004-07-20 11:30:17 Err... Addiann, as far as I know, "College town" and "drunk children" are pretty synonymous. Before those "drunk children" came to East Lansing, what was it about it that made it a "College town"? Oh, and when was this? * * * * * * * * * * * * addiann - 2004-07-20 13:05:36 MSU students didn't seem to be as publically drunk in the seventies when I lived there. Nor were the high school kids for that matter.* * * * * * * * * * * * Anna - 2004-07-20 15:14:00 Thirty years ago they much preferred heroin, true.* * * * * * * * * * * * addiann - 2004-07-20 22:53:32 probably more like homegrown they cultivated at their riverside shantytown in the middle of campus. * * * * * * * * * * * * Iss - 2004-07-21 16:31:13 Ok, now. Can read w/o comment no longer. Being an East Lansingite, I can tell you that 1) the superman brawl made news up here on the radio and newspaper, and 2) EVERY college town has its share of drunken stupid gatherings. I invite you all to town this week, as the kiddies are gone, to witness the peaceful, idyllic riverside setting (no shantytowns since the late 80's) as a welcome respite from the madding crowds that is the Art Fair. * * * * * * * * * * * * Laura - 2004-07-21 16:40:48 yay! hi Iss! You're probably right--a feature of every college town. Checked out the Fair today--it was about 15 degrees hotter in the fair proper, phew. Not bike-friendly. Some quivering sculptures made me a bit woozy, one corner with 5,000 windchimes quite clangorous but fun overall.* * * * * * * * * * * * addiann - 2004-07-21 20:22:46 lol "late '80s"* * * * * * * * * * * * Laura - 2004-07-21 20:39:16 yes...some artists come back relentlessly year after year, with what seems like the same lot of stuff. I still enjoy it, though, although it's a bit of an endurance test. * * * * * * * * * * * * add your comment: |
