I love you! I've been ranting about Comcast for months, and folks just look at me blankly as if to say "so?" So??? They could care not a nit less for their customers, and go forging ahead, grabbing up money on all sides as if licenses to steal had been served to them for breakfast.

I recently watched in fascinated horror as a local message board exploded in rage when the topic came up, with post after post about how they were dissatisfied, switching over to whatever, &c. I never thought it was reasonably priced--I'm so cheap I think nothing is reasonably priced--so I always avoided it.

I guess that was serendipitous for you; for cable, we have no choice in Lansing, other than a dish. It's a helpless feeling.

Pardon a naive as always comment, but--no choice at all? Doesn't that violate anti-monopoly laws? You should have your pick of a number of cable companies, not just one lousy option!
Oops, I forgot to say I don't have tv, much less cable--the only issue was phone/modem (MCI).

Cable bills are an addiction tax. People don't need cable, then they get addicted to it. Hell, without a dish or leash, we can pull in signals from 2 of each of the 3 US commercial networks. We can pull in 2.5 PBS stations. TVO, Windsor TV, and even a French Canadian channel are amazing. Almost everything on cable comes out on DVD within months of its run on air. (And DVD players cost less than one cable bill now!). Soon, anyone who wants to watch any TV at all will have to buy a new TV by 07, when everything goes to digital signal only!

That's interesting Leighton--I didn't know it was that soon. I did a bit of Googling and find that, after a switchover period, the analog signal gets shut off for good probably around 2014. But another thing I found is that there are converter boxes that allow any working analog tv to receive digital signals.

A TV guy told me that stations won't bother with the cost of analog signals and will probably be "nudged" by certain electronics companies to abandon "old technology" very early. The good news is that the signal will be as clear as (or better than) cable.

I'm still more a fan of analog in general...if an analog signal is lousy, you twiddle the antenna--my old tv had an antenna, I'm dating myself--and you still get something. If a digital signal is lousy, you get nothing--it's absolutist, 0 or 1. I never particularly cared about the degrees of picture quality when I used to watch "Cops."
