Washtenaw from Ypsi to A2 is such a pain in the ass (literally) to bike. Why no regular sidewalks? It's quite insane.

There's no regular sidewalks because the whole blighted strip is made for cars and cars only-peds and bikes need not apply. I'm starting to think a small tactical nuke would make for a nice renovation of that concrete wasteland.

I have biked Washtenaw from AA to Ypsi, and it's a patchwork of irregular bits of sidewalks, cutting through parking lots, and roughing it on stretches of grass. One long continuous sidewalk would be a godsend--I take back my original request for a bike lane--a bit too scary in 35- to 50-mph traffic. I'd actually love biking to work if there were a nice smooth sidewalk--10 miles isn't that far on a bike, and it would build in exercise into my day.
During last summer's blackout, I biked home on Washtenaw, in the street, and it was awesome. There were no cars for whatever reason and I just flew down the street--it was so much fun.

im assuming that to get a bike lane (or even improved and/or continous sidewalks), the city of ypsilanti would need money? What about doing what this lady in Detroit did and helped the community raise money for their sidewalks. cement campaign.
