Geddes' (b)log was great. I liked his passing commentary on the running score of how many times he's finished reading the bible cover to cover.
Incidentally, his grave is marked by an obelisk in the cemetery on Earhart road, just north of Geddes road past the concordia barn and fields. There is also the area between rt. 23, hogback road, and dixboro road which I believe he lived for a time- as old maps show the site was called "Geddesburg".

Wow! I pass the Earhart site every day--I'll have to de-bus maybe this Saturday to check it out--thanks Brett. May I ask, where is the cemetery?--is it within bike range from Concordia? Also, might you know where his obelisk is within the cemetery? And I'll have to dig around in my old maps to see if I can find Geddesburg...great info!

It's on earhart, maybe 500 yards or so north of geddes road, just past the athletic fields, and on the east side- it faces a school of some kind, and is surrounded by a chain link fence with an odd entrance system and parking for two cars (barely).
The grave is in the southeast corner of the cemetery, is a big (8' +) granite or sandstone obelisk, has his name on the south or east side- can't recall precisely. It should be pretty obvious, as most of the other graves are the horrendous "low profile" modern laser-etched variety.

There are plat maps online (check the Bentley library database)of the townships in the late 19th century that show the town of geddesburg, as well as land ownership.

It's not the 'best' cemetery in the area by a long shot, and its ambience is greatly handicapped due to the large housing development next door, but it has some shade trees, a few nice stones, and is moderately well-tended to.
Please, for the love of Geddes, don't start a cemetery thread- my obsessive comments will rapidly deplete whatever bandwidth diaryland allots you, and it would indeed be a Grave Error.

Ooh, cemetery thread--yes, you were the gentleman who surveyed all the area cemeteries if I remember right--cool! I bought a pub from the Geneological Soc. of Wash. Cty. with scads of info about local cemeteries--it was fascinating. And on a flakier note I've read of paranormal investigations by paranormal investigators in local cemeteries, but I think you're too down-to-earth, Brett, to cotton much to that, although my over-active imagination enjoys such things.

and thank you Brett for the location info. I'm headed into AA this Sat to see if any of the Fahrenheit 9/11 shows aren't sold out so I'll take a bit of time to check it out--thank you.
