Yeah, I've fooled with fireworks. The dogs always hated 'em. One year on E. Michigan Ave the works started on Memorial Day and ran non-stop till Labor Day. Over there, though, many of the pops were gunfire in the 80s/90s. Same for the township even now with all the subdividiots. However, I've reformed. I like my old body. WARNING! GORY CONTENT! http://www.huntingtonpd.com/fireworks/fireworks_pictures_page.htm

Whew...you weren't kidding about that "gory." We always set off a bunch at my sister's birthday (July 3) but just the standard ones you can get in a store. I do like the names of fireworks; "rain phoenix fountain" and the like.

Unfortunately, fireforks are a major part of human natural selection - as are Iroc's.

I love fireworks. I really do. But, like you, I just dont see why people have a need to shoot them of *every* night for the entire summer. At least now, the one dog who used to freak out has gone deaf, so it isnt as big of deal as it used to be.

Hey, isn't "Iraqi Independence Day" coming up? How do you think they'll celebrate?

Leighton, you seem to have meant it semi-jokingly, but the idea of a manmade object figuring into the intricate process of natural selection, in addition to "natural" forces, is so intriguing to me that I'm going to research it. Indeed we urbanites have altered the environment so much that the forces at work are hugely different from hunter-gatherer days. What happens when you overlay Darwin's ideas onto an urban environment? It's a really interesting question...so much for getting the laundry done tonight. Google time.
Lynne, I'm just wondering...sounds like you have more than one dog--just curious as to their breeds & names. I've got one 40-pound copper-colored chow mix named Clover.
Yes, Brett, it's the 30th...remains to be seen what will happen.

Can we write HTML code in these windows? Does this attempt to ride in the Wayback Machine work?

Yes indeed...and I am delighted to read your page, thank you for the (bookmarked) link! Also, I didn't know the paper mill was the longest-running such mill in U.S. history, according to your photo caption.

Add drugs / alcohol to the mix of fireworks and some "You!, out of the gene pool!" bumper stickers are in order. Unfortunately, we are all Devo, as the smarters ones tend to breed less. My cat did kill an overly fat field mouse last night though..., keeping the clock of nature running forwards.

Someone at the Detroit fireworks last night must have imbibed, since he "raked the crowd" with gunfire from a handgun before disappearing.
