Are you sure you remember the right comet? I thought Kohoutek was last seen in late 1973/early 1974. Maybe you mean Haley's comet or Halebopp.

Shoot. I thought I might have gotten the name wrong. The pretty one. Hale-Bopp, I think. (quick Google)--yep, Hale-Bopp. I note while Googling that a 39-member cult committed suicide at the appearance of this comet, convinced they'd be picked up by a UFO...a shame; you wonder how people convince themselves of such nonsense (practical Virgo nature speaking).

They were excellent web designers who worked at far-below market prices too. I still have a pair of Nikes like the ones they all wore. I was lucky to escape and be de-programmed.

I think it's rather nice that they thought they were joining a comet. The Jonestown people were told that they were being surrounded by mercenaries. (that article doesn't mention it, but most of the men in Heaven's Gate had themselves castrated.)

Except for the lucky escapees of course. Ypsidixit is grateful that readers represent such a wide range of backgrounds. It adds a richness to the blog.
