From what I've observed over the years, the presidents' wives have a tendency to be stronger and more personable than the presidents themselves are (with a few exceptions). Barbara Bush, for example, is an incredible woman.

It's said Nancy R. was running the show for the last couple years of Reagan's presidency...not sure if that's true. What is it about Barbara Bush that inspired that comment, I wonder...

If Ronald Reagan hadn't cut the NIH budget to shreds, we might have a cure for Alzheimer's by now.

Reagan was at best incompetent and at worst criminal.

"Trees cause more pollution than automobiles do."

Environmental scientists ruefully confirmed he was partially right. In hot weather, trees release volatile organic hydrocarbons including terpenes and isoprenes - two molecules linked to photochemical smog. In very hot weather, the production of these begins to accelerate.

Check your facts, Eric. Trees recycle nitrogen oxide, they don't produce it.

The British Geological Society quotes an Australian study that found that Reagan was right, at least in terms of eucalyptus trees, which produce smog-exacerbating hydrocarbons.
Nevertheless, Ypsidixit continues to plant fruit trees on every inch of her property, since their food, house-cooling, and wildlife-aiding benefits greatly outweigh this consideration.

Angela Davis spent some time on the lam avoiding bullshit, trumped-up murder charges. To clear up any confusion about what the Panthers meant by the word 'pig', I quote the following newscast, featuring former California governor Ronald Reagan: Lisa: "Thanks Tom. Governor Reagan, would you consider Angela Davis dangerous?" Reagan: "Yes, she is a Communist." Lisa: "Tell me Governor, how did the police department determine the guns used in the Marin County Massacre were all registered to Angela Davis?" Reagan: "Simple, she was a Communist." Lisa: "Governor, it had been rumored that one of the weapons used was in fact a weapon recovered in an earlier raid that was never returned to Angela Davis. Is this true?" Reagan: "Is Angela Davis a Communist?" Lisa: "Thanks Governor. Back to you, Tom."

that's a great interveiw, andy! The studies found that some trees react with pollution to produce nitrogen oxide. That's a far cry from "Trees cause more pollution than automobiles do".

I'm no Reagan apologist, but anyone who is followed by the media around the clock is bound to say a lot of bizarre things that do not present facts in their proper light.

Even John Kerry has said some weird stuff: "During the 1970s America created the Corporate Average Fuel Economy -- or CAFE -- program to increase auto efficiency. This was the right decision. Our vehicle fuel efficiency is worse now than it has been in twenty years."

I doubt that's what the President meant to say.

I am not a Reagan apologist either, by any stretch of the imagination. The "more than autos" bit seems questionable, if it's measurable at all. And, Andy, that is as Hillary says a great quote; thanks.
