Oh, I hate lawns. I really hate my lawn. Sometimes I wish that I were more interested in gardening so I could pull up the lawn and plant something else. Alas, I am not. Maybe I need to marry some guy who likes that stuff ;) I still think my yard is pretty though even if it is a little "rough"

Well, I did away with 1/2 of the front lawn today, putting in a new flowerbed. It was completely exhausting--who knew how tenacious grass roots are--but it's done now, with a cherry tree and purple coneflower planted where the dopey lawn used to be. phew.

I also hate my lawn. Yes, when it's just-cut it looks and smells nice. But what a waste of space and a gasoline sponge--of all idiotic appliances, a lawnmower is #1 on my list. Plus it's a sterile environment habitat-wise. Doesn't offer anything to wildlife. But I'm glad to have those purple coneflowers planted--I've seen birds feasting on the seeds last year. At any rate. By next year I should have the whole front yard ripped up, I hope. Just wildlife-friendly flowers & maybe a couple more fruit trees.

That sounds really nice. I would like to do something similar. Be careful though or the city might come and mow it all down and charge you $135. That's what they did to all my perrenials and my lavender bushes and the part of my backyard I was trying to let go prairie. Oh well.

What a lousy experience!--especially losing the lavendar! Oh, I've resigned myself to a lawn outside the fence for the time being...I was just putting more stuff inside the fence. Seems a bit intrusive for the city to mow your *back* yard! I sure wouldn't be too pleased with that.

Yeah, I wasnt happy. I still have to write the city a letter about it. I figure that someone new must have moved into the apartments behind me and complained or something. You cant even see the backyard from the street so I cant imagine that it was just someone walking by who complained. *shrug* Oh well, at least they didnt mow down my grape vines. I can get more lavender and actually some of the lavender looks like it might be coming back. We'll see. :) Ditto for a couple of the rose bushes they took out. They seem to be growing back. One of the rose bushes is for sure gone though but that one wasnt doing too well *before* they mowed it down.

Pity they couldn't live and let live--it doesn't sound as if it looked untidy or anything. At any rate.
