I was just thinking... in a Blair Witch kind of way... that it would interesting to have just found a camera with that being the last photo on it. Perhaps next to a pile of bones.

:) luckily in this case the person escaped, if barely, those glittery-eyed beasts. They do look like they're closing in, don't they? Maybe even slavering a bit. (actually, I think they're cute as a button).

They should be fine. Probably not good pets though.

You're right, they should be fine. That section is near the back, by two big doors, I'm told, so they should be able to scamper out & they look old enough to fend for themselves.

i sent the picture to a friend and told the story.
her response:
"I am telling myself that when the wrecking ball gets too close to them they will just pack their little bags up, put on their little straw hats and walk to the closest tree in the park and make themselves a nice little home. With a "Home sweet Home" plaque and all!"

:) cute. I'm thinking that if they're in that region, they'll hear any ruckus long before it gets to them...as leighton says they'll probably be fine.

Raccoons are aggressive little beasts. My father used to hunt them in our basement and attic when we lived out in the sticks. Not afraid of people at all, and make good soup.

Steve and I were camping with his sister in Ionia and thought we heard something in the bushes. I was afraid to look for fear of coming face to face with a man in an orange jumpsuit, but it was just a raccoon going through our bags. Didn't run away either.

It's odd that, as a wild animal, a raccoon in the middle of the woods, even, isn't afraid of people at all...seems very counter-survival.
My folks had a big noisy nest of them in their attic this past winter, had them trapped & released.
While exploring a northwestern bit of the Waterloo Nature Area last summer, I found an odd correctional facility of some kind in the woods, one for juveniles if I remember right. It made my walk in the dim woods a bit edgy...I left that area pretty soon.

I didn't know that racoons could make soup.
