According to Rumsfeld in yesterday's testimony before Congress, the worse is yet to come-many more photos and videotapes that make the England photos pale in comparison. One video apparently shows a man nearly beaten to death. This is turning into a disaster of epic proportions.

I strive for quaint, LDMA. :)
On a more serious note, DaveD, I was surprised at that "worse to come" comment too. Of course that ominous remark made me wonder...how long did they know @ these atrocities, and why did anyone imagine, with people emailing photos and making discs of photos and whatnot, that it could possibly be kept under wraps...I read one anonymous gov. official's remark that this disaster will set us back on foreign policy at least a generation, and I think that is correct.

I heard guards at the prison were trading the photos like baseball cards. There have been ongoing investigations since January.

That's right--I heard January too...and if I remember right the Red Cross started writing alerts last summer about abuse in the prison.
Trading the photos like baseball cards?

Baseball cards?

From the Sunday Herald:
"New, unpublished, photographs of prisoner abuse in Iraq are believed to include far more horrific images this time of a US male guard having sex with a female detainee and the sexual abuse of Iraqi detainees."
..."A source close to the US administration told the Sunday Herald: They know the damage has already been done and they know they are powerless as they wait for the next instalment.
..."Rumsfeld told Congress he had seen the images taken from impounded computer hard drives seized during a three-month military investigation in Iraq. I looked at them last night, he said. And theyre hard to believe."

From an MSNBC story:

"Rumsfeld did not describe the photos, but U.S. military officials told NBC News that the unreleased images showed U.S. soldiers severely beating an Iraqi prisoner nearly to death, having sex with a female Iraqi female prisoner and acting inappropriately with a dead body. The officials said there was also a videotape, apparently shot by U.S. personnel, showing Iraqi guards raping young boys."
