That actually was a half-decent bar. The food was quite good, and reasonably priced, and they had good beer and drink specials. The last owner, Clark Brown, fixed the place up nicely, but that place has always had problems late at night with fights and brawls, and the cops were there constantly. Anyway, I hope it opens back up again. DaveD

Was it good? I never visited, thinking perhaps wrongly that it'd be an EMU crowd; sounds like I was mistaken. Wonder why this particular bar had more tussles & trouble than other bars...

I'm not sure either. When I went to Eastern in the early 90's, it was a fairly typical college-type bar. The area along Laforge rd. north of there is fairly rough, and some of the riff-raff might have spilled over to the Nickel. It was getting bad there before it closed, almost like Arthur's on Michigan Ave. DaveD

there is something about that area that has a kind of bleak atmosphere.

maybe they're counting on the eventual new student housing there to pep up business.

You know, I was thinking about that student housing on my way to school the other day. That property is about 3 inches away from the train tracks. Who's going to live there?

400-some EMU students, though there's only 300-some parking spaces planned...that'll make that LeForge corner a nightmare, plus I fear hotshot kids not respecting the rather long traffic light there, on LeForge just north of Huron, & seeing if they can beat the train, &c...as you say, those tracks are mighty close, plus right by a street crossing, which reminds me of the train accident that plowed off the whole corner of the Sidetrack years ago.
