Bonsai...somehow strikes me as similar to keeping a bird in a cage, which also doesn't appeal to me, much as I like animals. It's just a wee bit too controlled--just by my lights, of course. I like looking at it, but I wouldn't do it. Add to this I wouldn't have the patience to wait and snip and curl wires for 25 years till I got a primo bonsai. I did try it once, years ago, and failed completely. I ended up just letting the little pine tree grow, already, not footbind it into some torturous shape. Besides, I like growing on a big scale, not fussing with some tiny pot thing. So that's my two cents on that.

although, come to think of it, I've been working on the knot tree for three years now...large scale alt-bonsai I guess you could call it.
