A lot of the marketing hype on this is utter bullshit. They weren't anywhere near as political as they're being made out to be. John Sinclair used them to further his agenda, and after the first album they were a rock and roll band, not a revolutionary force. Great band, though, and they did a lot to invent their style of rock and roll, which essentially became heavy metal. And Iggy's music became punk. Seminal, but not political. Important distinction these days, I think.
