My guess is they're widening the intersection, adding a right-hand turn lane.

They're going to need that extra capacity with all the new developments planned for Ypsilanti Township and points east.

Sometime when you're bored, drive Geddes Road east past the motorcycle club. Check out what's a-brewin out yonder.

Another possibility is that they may have been Ash trees cut down to control the spread of the Emerald Ash Borer. U-M is in the process of cutting down all of its ashes.

Steven, I hate to think what I'd find out there...Cantonization? I'm curious now, though, so I'll check it out tomorrow when I'm out.
Anna, it's ugh all right. Quite the pillage.
Brandon, I noticed a bunsh of trees downtown were cut down too...and on one stump on 4th Ave someone carved the word, "WHY?" I wished at that moment I had a camera.

They're widening it, all right. Check it out here: http://www.wcroads.org/RDCconstruction04.htm ... wonder if this new bridge will be as ugly as some of the other ones they've built lately.

Great link, thank you...land sakes, they're building a four-lane bridge over the tracks! Yes, that stretch of Dixboro is a wee bit congested at rush hours, but...a four-lane bridge?

Washtenaw County seems hell-bent on speeding the arrival of the Age of Eternal Ugliness. Seriously. What gives?

This is going to be one huge bridge, judging by the immense swath of razed dirt--it will be high above the tracks and apparently as big as the Huron Parkway bridge just south of Fuller. Wonder what will happen to that bit of Dixboro underneath. It seems odd that such a mammoth bridge is connecting Geddes to the dinky 2-lane Huron River Drive...maybe HRD is next on the agenda for widening.
