Eh, I say, Critique away. I think people have roundly agreed that Pearl S. Buck should never have won a Nobel Prize. I'm quite proud of the old broad, as she is affiliated with one of my alma maters, but I'd probably have to agree with those who say the Nobel committee was way off.

Old and Cranky, I agree with you. I do have all her novels, and I loved the sweeping saganess of The Good Earth, but I find the other ones not as good...certainly nothing like the mighty and overall consistently good (and somewhat better) ouevre of Singer. Buck's bio makes for good reading--she had quite an interesting life overseas as, if I remember right, a missionary's daughter. p.s. may I ask which alma mater? just curious.

I went to Randolph-Macon Woman's College, as did she. It's a small school, so she's most definitely our Most Famous Grad.
