People around here are pretty horrified by the whole thing. Word out is that Bloom is going to file a defamation lawsuit. My personal opinion of her is that she (and her sparkling mane) can't stand to be out of the spotlight. It's been a few years since her last 15 minutes, and she's hungry for more.

I would not trivialize anyone's experience of sexual harassment, but this is ridiculous. She should have said something at the time--there were resources on the U-M campus for this sort of thing when I was there in the mid-80s; it's not like the issue was unheard of. The whole thing smacks of self-promotion. And--let's get a grip here--even if what she says is true, it is, as the Guardian columnist says, it's way closer to the "misunderstanding" side of the harassment spectrum and is certainly something I think a grown woman should have come to terms with long ago. Also as the Guardian columnist says, she does no service to women by whining about being a victim. I despise the sort of person who builds a career on and sells books out of such narcissistic whining--like that shameless fake who wrote the "Lost Boy" series--and I'm getting that impression from her. Had the guy been some nobody adjunct lecturer or other I have the idea she wouldn't have bothered.

and incidentally Anna, I would love to hear more on what you & your colleagues are saying about this mess; it sounds like you're much more in the know than I am as a somewhat distant observer. Thanks for your comment.
