Glad you enjoyed it. Herewith, a guide to the unique idiolect of "Gumboot Cloggeroo." "Quohog stew": quohogs (in Maine, quahogs) are big clams that are generally known as littleneck clams; this must be a Native American name. "Newfie screech": this is a rum marketed in Newfoundland and, apparently, the other Maritime provinces. To be "screeched in," someone once told me, is to kiss a fish and then down a glass of the stuff. "Blue noses" is a semi-derogatory Canadian term for residents of Nova Scotia--proudly adopted, as so many of these terms are, by the recipients. "Herring chokers" in the U.S. upper Midwest are Norwegians; I don't know whether the same is true in Atlantic Canada. What the "ring-dang-do" that Stompin' Tom buys for P.E.I. "Ring-dang-do" was a mystery to me, too, as were a couple of the terms you mentioned--thank you for the definitions. What's shaping up to be may favorite song on this album is "The Moon-Man is a Newfie"--the line about the old man sailing away in a golden dory is evocative.
